What is Buildt

Buildt is a semantic code search tool. Instead of Ctrl+F or grep, you ask a question in natural language and Buildt returns the relevant files and functions in your codebase.

It indexes your repo, creates semantic embeddings of the code, and lets you navigate by intent rather than syntax.

Strengths

"Where's the pricing logic?" or "Find the functions that handle Stripe webhooks" return relevant results even if the function names don't contain those words.

Time saved during onboarding

When you join a new codebase, Buildt cuts down the time it takes to find where things happen. Instead of spending hours exploring, you just ask questions.

Limits

Feature absorbed by generalist assistants

Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot Chat, and Codeium all have semantic codebase search capabilities. If you're already using one of these tools, Buildt adds little value.

Long initial indexing on large codebases

On a repo with 500,000+ lines, the initial indexing can take a significant amount of time.
