What is Power Automate?
Power Automate (formerly Microsoft Flow) is the automation platform of the Microsoft Power Platform. You build "flows" (automated action sequences) that connect Microsoft apps (SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, Dynamics) and third-party services via connectors. The Copilot AI lets you create flows by describing what you want in plain language. The RPA module (Desktop Flow) automates actions on desktop applications.
Strengths
Native RPA for desktop applications
Power Automate is one of the few tools in its price range to include RPA (automation of desktop apps like SAP, legacy ERPs).
Copilot for flow creation
You describe what you want to automate and Copilot generates the flow structure. Very useful to get started fast.
Often included in Microsoft 365
Many Microsoft plans include Power Automate rights. Check your license before paying for an extra plan.
Limits
Complexity of advanced flows
Flows with complex conditional logic and error handling become hard to maintain quickly. Zapier or Make are more intuitive for simple use cases.
Less flexible than Zapier for non-Microsoft stacks
If your tools aren't Microsoft, connectors are fewer and less well maintained.
Pricing
Starting at 15 €/month standalone. Often included in Microsoft 365. Check microsoft.com.
Alternatives
For automation without Microsoft: Zapier at $20/month. For more flexibility: Make. For enterprise RPA: UiPath.
Verdict
Power Automate is the obvious choice in a Microsoft context. For mixed organizations, Zapier or Make offer more connectors and a better experience. Native RPA is a unique differentiator.

Does Power Automate work offline for RPA?
Desktop RPA can work partially offline for some local automations.
How many runs does the basic Power Automate plan include?
The 15 €/month plan includes a set number of monthly runs. Check microsoft.com for details as quotas change.
